Actress Ngozi Ezeonu can be referred to as one of the ‘Big Mamas’ in game. No denying the fact, the veteran actress or "everyday youngee" - as she is popular referred to by her fans is one of the old stars who is still much relevant in the Nollywood movie industry.

Her acting role in the movie, Adesuwa earned her a ‘Best Supporting Actress’ nomination at the 8th Africa Movie Academy Awards in 2012 and till date she still continues to be an active force in Nollywood.

Ngozi Ezeonu Biography

Ngozi Ezeonu was born on May 23, 1965, to Mr. and Mrs. D.O. Ikpelue. She is a native of Ogbunike in Anambra State, Nigeria.

Ngozi Ezeonu waa actually a journalist at first. She obtained a Diploma Degree in Journalism and worked as a Journalist. Although her first paying job was as a hair-stylist before she did the diploma course in Journalism.


The Journey into Nollywood

Ngozi Ezeonu only practiced journalism for a short period before joining Nollywood in 1993.

In 1993, she was introduced into Nollywood by Zeb Ejiro, who at that time offered her a role in the movie: Nneka the Pretty Serpent, which later became her debut movie. Her lead role in the movie was so outstanding, it landed her yet another role in another hit movie: Glamour Girls, alongside Liz Benson and Gloria Anozie after her Glamour Girls debut which shot her into the limelight, it has been a thrilling ride with destiny and success.

Apart from her, Ngozi Ezeonu has six other siblings born to her parents, five of which are males. She is married and blessed with four children.

She has been married for decades to her husband, Edwin. And unlike the younger celebrities who like sharing photos of their families – Ngozi Ezeonu shys away from the social media.




Though traces of her personal selfies and also photos of her and those of her children have been spotted on media. Since her children are all grown, she enjoys the freedom a pursuing her career and personal interests.

She was a trained journalist, practicing Journalism at Radio Lagos before making her acting debut.

She was introduced into the Nollywood movie industry by Zeb Ejiro, who offered her a role in her debut movie “Nneka the Pretty Serpent.”

Being a woman of reputation and exemplary character, Ngozi Ezeonu is very Choosey when it comes to scripts. She once cited in an interview that a lot of young ones look up to her and that she wouldn’t want to do anything that would Change that.

Also, during one interview, Ngozi Ezeonu disclosed that she does not fancy playing nude in a movie, or playing romantic roles or roles where they mishandle children.

Ngozi Ezeonu to date, is known as a disciplined and reserved woman, as well as a mother figure and a role model for up and coming actresses in the Nigerian movie industry.

In 2013 however, she shocked the entire public with her tremendous weight loss. The actress who was known for her robust frame, diminished drastically having lost over half of her body weight leaving her fans as well as the entire public pretty bothered about her health. This led to several media reports and claims that the actress was sick but amid the insinuations, Ngozi Ezeonu came out to debunk the rumors of her being ill. Rather, she had explained that it was her choice to lose weight, as she had been battling with it for years. However, the veteran actress finally placed a stop her to her aggressive weight loss journey, when she started experiencing chronic Anorexia (a lack or loss of appetite for food).


Dead or Alive?

In 2014, some media publicity stunt sparked a wide spread speculation among fans who wondered if she was really dead or alive. It was the year the actress buried her late mother, Mrs. Joy Ikpelue on October 17 at Ikpelue’s compound in Azu Ogbunike, Anambra state.

But to God be the glory, Ngozi Ezeonu is still very much alive and well and still blazing in the Nigerian movie industry.
