She needs no introduction in the African entertainment industry.

When you think of the names of the few A-list Nigerian Actresses currently on Nollywood who have done well tremendously for themselves and the industry in terms of their artistic prowess and passion for the game, the name of the veteran actress, writer, and producer: Uche Jombo quicky comes to mind.

Her dedication to acting has over the years naturally placed her in the limelight, putting her name on the list of prominent TV personalities of her generation.


Uche Jombo Biography, Age

The birth/arrival of the Nigerian superstar was announced on December 28, 1979. She is a native of Abiriba, Abia State, Nigeria.

It may suprise you to know that the talented actress, has two degrees, both of which she obtained from different universities in Nigeria. One in Mathematics/Statistics which she obtained from the university of Calabar while the other ( computer programming ) she obtained from the Federal University of Technology Minna.

And though she always took her studies seriously throughout her Uni days, the  young and energetic lady had always nursed the passion of becoming an actress someday.

Life while growing up wasn't all girly for Uche Jombo. As a matter of fact, the star actress had always been a tough cookie right from the start. According to her, while growing up, she had always behaved like a boy, climbing trees and playing football with her male peers.


Acting/Producing Career

Uche Jumbo was raised by her mom who then enrolled her in their church drama group at a very young age; and that was the beginning of her golden journey through the yellow brick road "Dorothy".

Even while in secondary school  she always received the best drama student award. In fact,  she was so good, that her mother’s church had to fund her tuition fee during her years in secondary school.

In 1999, Uche Jombo made her debut as an actress in Nigeria with the movie - Visa to Hell.

And within a space of 17 years, the beautiful and muti talented actres successfully
metamorphosed from an upcoming actress into a leading actress and now a huge movie producer and screenwriter.

Uche Jumbo has featured in over 60 movies. Some hits which are; Games Men Play (she was a co-scriptwriter), Girls in the Hood, A Time to Love, The Celebrity, amongst others.

Also some of her self-produced movies which she also got stared in are: Hustlers, Damage, Holding Hope, Lies Men Tell, Keep my Will, Kiss and Tell, Darkest Night.

In all, the Uche Jombo Studios (her movie production company) has successfully produced over 14 movies. She has also done over 20 screenplays.

No doubt, the multi talented actress, sure has a good head for business judging from her production's successes, and is believed to be one of the richest actress in Nollywood currently.

Speaking on her production of movies with mostly domestic and human related themes, Uche says; that the reason for producing such movies with domestic and human-relations themes, is to drive social change in the society. As such, movies like Damage, handled the ills of domestic violence.

In 2012, the gifted actress featured in Ebony Life TV reality show, she alongside other A-list Screen Divas  actresses namely – Rita Dominic, Funke Akindele, and Kate Henshaw. Together the 4 ladies starred in a short movie:New Horizon. The movie directed by Tope Oshin was a piece that addressed women abuse and domestic violence.

You need not do a guessing game to know that she (Uche Jombo), is a typical miss independent type.

Clearing the air on her breakup with estranged boyfriend, Ikechukwu Uche years ago, Jumbo had this to say:

“I have been working since I was 14. I single handedly saw myself through school, and not just me, even my siblings too. I have always been my own person, and have never needed a man to define me. I have always known that whoever I ended up with was the fortunate one.”

I guess Serena Williams isn't the only black female celebrity who choosed a spouse outside her race.

On May 16, 2012, the simple actress (Uche Jumbo), got married to her Puerto Rican spouse, Kenny Rodriguez at a private beach wedding on the Island of Puerto Rico. And though she was criticised for not making the information about her private  marriage with her new found love public, she simply replied that the secrecy of wedding was an agreement she had with her husband to “savor the moment” Together as couple. They both have a son named: Matthew Chinedu Rodriguez.


Achievements: Awards and Deals.

Uche Jumbo is one actress who simply worked her way to the top. Today she has many commendable achievements to her name as a Nollywood personality.

Some of the awards she has won so far includes: The Best Actress by AfroNolly Group in 2008 in London, England,  Humanitarian Award for Haiti in New York, USA, The 2013 Africa International Film Festival as Best Actress Leading Role and The 2015 Golden Icons Academy Movie Award as Female Viewers Choice of the year.

Coupled to those, in 2014 she signed an endorsement deal alongside other actresses as an ambassador of the New Nation project at the Dukwe headquarters in Port Harcourt. Also in 2013,Uche Jumbo signed a multimillion naira endorsement deal with telecom giant GLO.

The actress has also through her UJ Studios, created employment opportunities for gifted and creatively - inclined people.

And also in addition, she runs an NGO - Uche Jombo & You, an organization targeted at helping and nurturing Nigerian youths who are gifted in the art of writing and acting.
